NEW: Councillor Lesley Rennie and Baroness Susan Williams welcome Government cash for domestic violence victims in Wirral

In September, Councillor Lesley Rennie, a former police officer in Wallasey, wrote to the Council’s Chief Executive, urging Wirral to apply for a share of a new Government fund to assist victims of domestic abuse. See Wirral Globe here for details.

Following Councillor Rennie’s call, the Town Hall submitted a bid to the Department for Communities and Local Government (see here for details).

Today, it has been announced that the bid has been successful and Wirral will:

  • to get new safe havens
  • be able to pay for two new specialist support officers
  • deliver the service in partnership with local charity Wirral Women and Children’s Aid

Councilllor Rennie said: “This is good news for victims of domestic violence and their families. I am pleased the Town Hall listened to those of us who urged them to apply to the government and I’m delighted the bid was successful.
