Wirral Labour Councillors Vote Against Protecting Our Greenbelt!

Earlier this evening I attended the Council’s Regeneration and Environment Committee to present my Notice of Motion calling on the Council to protect our precious Greeenbelt and not to give away to Mersyside Fire and Rescue Service a piece of our Greeenbelt in Saughall Masdie for a new Fire Station.

The Notice of Motion called on the Council to:

(1) To maintain protection of Wirral’s Green Belt, as set by agreed policies and stop inappropriate development.

(2) Not to gift, sell or lease the land concerned in Saughall Massie, because of the value it has for the community.

(3) To ask officers to continue to work co-operatively with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service in identifying and facilitating a more suitable brown field site for operational purposes and to maintain the amenity of the local people.

While five Conservative Councillors voted to support the Notice of Motion, five Labour Councillors voted against and the Chairman of the Committee a Labour Councillor used his casting vote to throw out our motion.

To say I am disapppointed by Wirral Labour would be an understatement, however the fight goes on….

The Labour Councillors who voted against are:

Mike Sullivan (Chairman) Pensby and Thingwall Ward

Jerry Williams, Bebington Ward

Jim Crabtree Bidston Ward

Rob Gregson New Brighton Ward

Christine Spriggs New Brighton Ward
