Following my last posting on this issue, I’d like to start by thanking those residents who made the journey to Bootle to attend the meeting of the Merseyside Fire Authority, along with myself and Councillors Bruce Berry and Steve Williams.
Sadly, at that meeting, councillors from across Merseyside voted for the merger of West Kirby and Upton fire stations with a new build fire station on Green Belt land on Saughall Massie Road adjacent to Woodpecker Close. This was in spite of the presentation by the Chairman of the Saughall Massie Conservation Society, as well as all the submissions and letters by local Councillors and residents.
The Fire Authority will now move to the next stage which will see a planning application submitted to Wirral Borough Council. As soon as I have further details of this, I will let people know.
In the meantime, I have submitted a request for all Party support at the next Council meeting to protect Wirral’s Green Belt, including the land at Saughall Massie.
Thanks, again, to all those residents who have contacted myself, Bruce and Steve on this issue.
