Another Telephone Mast Application!

Vodafone UK has submitted yet another planning application, via their agents, Mono Consultants to install a telephone mast, equipment cabinet and electrical meter pillar on the Pavement North of Hoylake Road, Outside Tesco Express, Moreton, Wirral CH46 6DG.  Application number: ANT/11/01235.

If people wish to support or oppose this application they can do so by contacting the Council’s Planning Officer who is dealing with this application, Alexandra McDougall.   Alexandra can be emailed: alexandramcdougall@wirral.gov.uk  or Telephone: 0151 606 2218, or by writing to her at Cheshire Lines Building, Canning Street, Birkenhead, CH41 1ND ensuring you quote application number: ANT/11/01235.    All representations need to be submitted by the 7th November, 2011.

Whilst I recognise that we all use mobile phones so creating the need for more masts, I have always maintained they should be sited in appropriate locations.    Like previous applications by Vodafone and O2 I do not believe that this location is appropriate and I have made my views known to the planning officer dealing with the application.

The area that the application is proposed for is a paved and open grassed area to the front of Tesco Express on Hoylake Road, directly opposite residential and commercial properties and very close to a busy junction with Millhouse Lane and Saughall Road.   There are many  residential properties very close by in Hoylake Road,  Millhouse Lane, Saughall Road, The Paddock, Coppice Grange, Carr Gate, Broster Avenue, Amberley Close and Amberley Avenue etc.   The grassed area currently has a telephone pole, two trees, and road signage but still offers good sight lines to the junction.    I believe if approved that the proposed development would form a visually obtrusive feature by reason of its siting, size and design and it would result in an unacceptable level of roadside clutter which the Local Planning Authority considers would be detrimental to the general character of the street scene.
