Tackling Hate Crime

As Cabinet Member responsible for Community Safety I am delighted that Wirral’s Community Safety Partnership in conjunction with Wirral’s Equality and Cohesion Department has produced a new booklet in an effort to urge victims to break their silence.

Wirral Council tackles hate crime as part of a co-ordinated community response by involving representatives from statutory, community and voluntary agencies, there are many types of hate crime such as: Age – Disability – Race – Religion or Belief – Gender (including Transgender), and Sexual Orientation.

All victims or their friends or family are urged to report to the police and other agencies, either personally, or through a third party, such as Stop Hate UK (0800 138 1625, or Crimestoppers (0800 555111) each and every instance of hate crime, sadly too many victims don’t.

If you want a copy of the booklet, or advice or information contact Wirral’s Community Safety Team on 0151 606 5477
