‘A Grand Day Out’

Yesterday along with Sandra and Stephanie we went over to Liverpool to support the first official Liverpool Pride Event.

The atmosphere was electric with a massive multi coloured carnival atmosphere.  The event started with a march, sadly I got over too late for the start of the march but was able to witness a marvellous spectacle.   My colleague, Secombe Councillor Denis Knowles marched with the LGBTory group, I managed to get the snap of Denis (pictured on the header photo in the Terence Higgins Trust T Shirt) with the group.

After the march there was plenty of time to visit the many stalls that were all over Dale Street and the side streets, as well as taking in some great performers on the three stages that were provided as well as participating in a cocktail or three at Sakura and taking in a meal at Las Iguanos in Liverpool One.    All in all a tremendous occassion that was supported by thousands of people from all over the northwest of England and beyond.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the organisors, the sponsors and all those who attended for making the day the success it was.   Lets hope this festival is repeated year on year.

  1. It was great to see you at the first ever Liverpool Pride, Chris. It was a good day and a fantastic start to what we hope will be a successful festival for the City of Liverpool and Merseyside generally, for many years to come.

It was especially good to have Cllr Denis Knowles marching with the LGBTory group and that he also supported our stall on Dale Street.

It is vital that we have support from elected representatives of the Conservatives at events such as this so that support for the LGBT community from the Party is apparent and visual. Thanks for doing your bit to help!

  2. Hi Matthew, thanks for the comment. It was a pleasure to help and hopefully we can encourage more elected members to get involved in events such as this. It really was a tremendous day. Heres to next years event.
