Thanks to all those people who voted Conservative on Thursday, and particularly those in Moreton West and Saughall Massie who re-elected my colleague, Cllr Simon Mountney, this is testament to the work we do in the ward, something that was recognised by the New Labour candidate, who said at the count, “I hope I don’t win because you Tories do such a great job“, thanks Deidre.
Whilst we are delighted that Simon was re-elected as was Lesley Rennie in Wallasey ward, I am saddened that we lost two great Councillors, Leah Fraser in Liscard and Bill Duffey in New Brighton, sadly they suffered as a result of the national Labour Vote. It is difficult to understand why there was such a vote for Labour, particularly when Labour tellers in different polling stations in Leasowe and Moreton East ward allegedly commented: “I don’t know why I am doing this, I hate Angela Eagle, we only hear from her when theres an election on.” Another said, “I am not a Labourite, and if I had a gun I would shoot Gordon Brown, I am only doing this as a favour to Iris.”
We fought our campaign on facts and truth, eveything we put out was positive, and in the names of real people. We are proud that we did not resort to totally negative, fear and smear tactics of the Wallasey New Labour Party who had nothing positive to say about their achievements (Well they wouldn’t have would they) we did not put out leaflets in anonymous names, we did not try to kid the electorate, and more importantly we did not try to frighten the most vulnerable in our society. Wallasey New Labour have a great deal to be ashamed of. I will say just this to them. What goes round comes round, roll on May 2011.
