Whilst we were out delivering in Moreton this morning we came across the latest rarity, a New Labour by-election leaflet. To say it left me sickened would be an understatement.
Today I, and the people of Moreton and Saughall Massie have witnessed a new low in the tactics of a political party in Wirral. Labour is fighting an increasingly desperate campaign in the Moreton West & Saughall Massie by-election, just trying to secure second place above the Independent candidate.
The by-election follows the sad and tragic death of Suzanne Moseley, aged just 47, from a brain haemmorhage. Suzanne had been one of the three Conservative Councillors for the ward, since 2003, until her untimely death.
Today, the Labour leaflet has criticised the record of the Conservative councillors for the area over the last few years. Now I don’t have a problem if they want to attack me, or criticise my colleague, Cllr Simon Mountney, we can both defend ourselves. But to condemn the record of a well loved and well respected Councillor who has died, and in such a sad and tragic way is an utter, and total disgrace. Now its no secret that I didn’t think much of the people running the Labour campaign, now, I think even less.
All those people in Moreton and Saughall Massie who knew Suzanne, who liked Suzanne and who were grateful for her work on their behalf will have their chance to comment on Labours disgusting tactics on November 26. I sincerely hope that they take that opportunity and send a clear message that this behaviour is not acceptable!
Haven’t seen the leaflet; however it’s disrespectful to speak ill of the dead when they are only recently departed.
Labour don’t have a chance of winning; why don’t they concentrate on their positive succeses such as trying to bring unwanted library closures to the Borough? Oh, or trying to sell off the community centres (sorry as Labour would spin it community asset transfer)… to be honest Labour’s days in government nationally are numbered and nearly every dissatified member of the public with Labour councillors is considering switching their vote.
From what my wife tells me and what I hear, you (and Suzanne when she was around), as well as your fellow ward councillor have done stirling work standing up for your residents in difficult circumstances.
I applaud you and your fellow councillor for the efforts you make compared to councillors of other parties; their councillors are often far too willing to collect a salary, vote whatever way they’re told by the whip, not read reports of committees they’re on, not declare prejudicial interests or whipping arrangements, and keep their head down and not stand up for the public because in 4 years time they want their party to reselect them as a candidate that “didn’t rock the boat”.
That’s not to mention the bullying and unconstitutional behaviour that goes on within other party’s council groups and internally within their parties. Bullying and prejudice that amounts to illegal discrimination on grounds of age, gender, disability, race etc…
Sighs; time for the sweeping broom of the electorate to clear out some of the dead wood of the Town Hall in May.
The Conservatives will win the byelection; but in 6 months time you could come close to controlling Wirral Council; thanks to the hard work and reputation of Conservative councillors and the hard work that your PPCs put in.
Anyway, I won’t say anymore before I get accused of disloyalty by my own party!
[...] In his comment Mr Brace says, “From what my wife tells me and what I hear, you (and Suzanne when she was around), as well as your fellow ward councillor have done stirling work standing up for your residents in difficult circumstances.” He goes on to say, “I applaud you and your fellow councillor for the efforts you make compared to councillors of other parties” You can read the full comment by clicking HERE. Thanks John for your very kind comments. They are always welcome. As for being disloyal, no you are simply saying what many people think. Regards Chris
