I received a copy of an email earlier today from a Grandparent who is very concerned about the health and safety of Children who use the play area at Linear Park, Town Meadow Lane, Moreton. The email was sent by my constituent to the Councils Head of Head of Cultural Services, Jim Lester and called on the Council to take immediate action to rectify the faults or close the play area to the public. You can read the constituents email by clicking here (I have removed the contact details of the constituent for data protection reasons)
Both me and my colleagues, Cllr Simon Mountney and Cllr Suzanne Moseley have been calling for improvements at this location for a long time, sadly the Council has not listened. I find it incredible that the Council insists, through section 106 agreements, that housing developers provide play areas and then they simply fail to maintain them to any sort of decent standard. Bad enough the Council want to close 11 Library’s, sell off Museums, Birkenhead Town Hall and threaten to close swimming pools, now it appears that they want to deprive our children, parents and grandparents of safe play areas.
I fully support my constituent and the comments he has made in his email to the Council, and I will do all I can to see that this unacceptable situation is resolved as soon as possible. I have contacted Jim Lester and Bill Norman, Head of Law asking that immediate action is taken to ensure our Children are protected from the dangers that this particular play area presents.
