This morning I spent a couple of hours with Cllr Leah Fraser, prospective Conservative MP for Wallasey and Moreton visiting local shops, talking to the owners about the problems small businesses are facing, as a result of the recession.
We were very well received, and many shopkeepers talked about the downturn in business, the lack of footfall throughout the Town, the lack of parking, as well as the short-term problems being caused by United Utilities who are carrying out mains water renewal on Hoylake Road.
I have to say it was a very illuminating couple of hours, and although clearly times are tough, the shopkeepers we spoke to were all determined to carry on. Leah and I will do all we can to make sure that the businesses in Moreton survive this recession and come out the other side stronger. When we finished we called into the newly extended Paninos for a well earned coffee.
