Readers of the blog and the wider Moreton community will be aware of our opposition to the crazy suggestion by Merseyside Environmental Agency Services (MEAS) to use the North Wirral Brickworks site in Carr Lane as a potential landfill site. In order to make sure we keep this issue at the forefront of the Council, my colleague Leah Fraser and I will be moving a Notice of Motion (NOM) at full Council on Monday 13th July, calling on MEAS to remove this site and the Prenton site from their programme. The wording of the NOM can be seen below:
Notice of motion: Landfill in Wirral
Moved by Cllr Chris Blakeley, Seconded by Cllr Leah Fraser
- Council is disappointed to note that Merseyside Environmental Agency Services (MEAS) has moved to the next stage of investigations for landfill sites in Wirral, at Moreton and Prenton.
- Council supports the views expressed of local residents, the Council, Wirral Wildlife and other interested stakeholders during the first stage of consultation, rejecting both sites
- Council further notes that MEAS has republished their initial report, having omitted the responses from local residents, elected members and other agencies in the first version.
- Council again urges MEAS to reject the use of the North Wirral Brickworks, Carr Lane Moreton (MIN027) and the site in Prenton (MIN030) and asks MEAS to remove, without delay, both of these sites from their proposals.
