I have been contacted by one of my constituents who received a ‘Seven Day Notice of Termination’ letter from Wirral Partnership Homes (WPH). The letter is sanctioned and signed by the Chief Executive of WPH. That letter can be read by clicking here (I have removed the tenants name and house number to protect them).
The tenant was very distressed to receive such a letter and that is why they contacted me. I immediately contacted WPH and asked for an explanation as to why they send such harsh, draconian and downright threatening letters. I waited all day for a response, however eventually one of the Area Managers contacted me.
I asked how did WPH come to the conclusion that this tenant did not live at the property anymore, when clearly this was wrong, and why they send out such draconian and threatening letters. His response, was that this is a ‘Standard’ letter that is used to get tenants to contact WPH so they can carry out an annual inspection of the property and is used when other methods of contact have failed. I have to say if WPH think that their letter is standard then I would hate to see a stronger letter!
I pointed out that if this sort of letter landed on a tenants doormat, who, is perhaps elderly, or in need of support, it could have devastating effects on them. I have suggested to WPH that, ‘They think again’ over the use of such a threatening letter. This surely is not how a responsible social landlord should be behaving? I will be asking my colleagues Cllr Tom Anderson and Cllr Karen Hayes who are Council nominated WPH Board Directors to take this matter up at Board Level.
