Wirral’s ruling Labour and Lib Dem Cabinet will be considering a report on THursday this week, which if they approve will start the process for closing many of the Council’s buildings across the Borough. The closures include 10 library’s, Leisure Centres, Pacific Road Arts Theatre, Wirral Museum at Birkenhead Town Hall and the Bus and Tram museum in Birkenhead. Whilst the Council promises re-provision in a different format, there is no doubt that the closure of many of the facilities across the Borough will have a direct effect on thousands of people. Purely for my own benefit…
Is there anything that this council wont cut for the sake of being able to front up tax payers cash for 40 inch TV’s and ‘jollies’/away days that seem to give absolutely zero in terms of positive output?
We pay council tax – and in return for paying (and paying on time and putting up with yearly increases), we want good, workable/usable facilities in a pleasant surrounding.
We don’t need cobbled footpaths from a bygone era, we don’t need huge floral displays on roundabouts – we just want nice facilities that give families something to do in their free time at low cost. Or perhaps, a novel idea, we could invest some of our cash in finding and creating things for teenagers to do. That may stop graffiti, hoodies, hooliganism etc…
Closing museums, librarys and art centres…what ever next..sheltered accommodation?
