Last night along with many residents of Bradman Road I attended the Council’s Licensing Health and Safety and General Purpose Committee to speak in support of a report that will see the start of the process for a gating order to be put in place to close off the footpath between Bradman Road and Wastdale Drive. We were all delighted that the committee supported our view and have authorised the process to be started. Watch this space for more updates……….

Dear Cllr Blakeley, thanks for bringing this to the attention of the Council, your arguments in favour of gating, along with the views of the residents, helped to convince me to vote in favour of your request
on speaking to residents of wastdale drive / curlew way / curlew court/wastdale mews/wastdale court/ternway/lingham lane/ lingham close/glacier road/harvest lane/berrylands road/mallard way. we are disgusted at this form of “berlin wall”.
It has come to the attention of many on the other side of the wall so to speak. That Cllr Blakeley did not inform any of the residents of wastdale drive / curlew way/mallard way or ternway of a meeting to object to this infringment of right of way to many. The police had been asked about there views on this gate . The police knew nothing of this planning/ meeting or results and also in there opinion this area is not a problem area. was informed that Cllr Blakeley was the only person who could speak at this meeting.so much for a democratic system…..has the views of the residents of a much larger community ie wastdale drive/mallard way/curlew way/curlew court/wastdale mews/wastdale court/ternway/lingham lane/ lingham close/glacier road/harvest lane/berrylands road.
been asked for or considered????
Dear I Murray, thank you for your comment. First of all it is not my responsibility to inform the residents of any Council meeting, that is the responsibility of the Council. Secondly the Police were fully aware of the process and gave their full support to the gating order at the time. I do not know weho is peddling the myth that the police did not, and do not support the order, that is completely false. The police, whilst recognising that criminal/anti-social behaviour had diminished in the area, continued to support the order, that can be demonstrated by a letter the Moreton Neighbourhood Inspector, Peter Kolokotroni sent to the Council last month. The process for the gating order was fully publicised, both on the Council’s website and in the local papers. The Licensing meeting that made the decision, was also advertised on the Council website. I don’t know who told you that I was the only person who could speak, petitioners who supported the gating order, as well as those who opposed it should they attend would also be allowed to speak, so democracy is available. The Licensing committee listened to all the arguments for and against, they took into account the petition of objection, as well as the individual letters of objection before they made any decision. Having done that they still felt on balance that it was appropriate to authorise the order. That is their decision not mine. If people are unhappy about the gates they can ask the Council to consider revoking the order and remove the gates, should that be something you wish to do I would suggest you write to the Council’s Head of Law, Bill Norman, Wallasey Town Hall, Brighton Street, Wallasey CH44 8ED. I hope this response has gone someway in answering the points you raised. Regards Cllr Chris Blakeley
