You are sure of a big surprise, but not by the ‘Teddy’s Bears Picnic’. Earlier today, following lots of complaints from concerned local residents about under-aged drinking of alcohol in Upton Woods, I went to the woods myself to witness first hand what people were telling me.
The evidence of alcohol consumption was clear in whatever direction I went, with discarded cans, bottles and packaging strewn across the woods. However it was equally clear that there were many ‘dens’, (as can be seen by the pics above) that also showed signs of camp fires, as well as the remains of alcohol consumption and they are obviously gathering points for many youngsters.
Upton Woods is a beautifulful wooded area and runs from Upton Road right down to the rear of residential properties in Paulsfield Drive and Burrell Drive, it forms a natural boundary to the M53 Link and the Upton Bypass.
We as a community have a responsibility to ensure that the woods, which has lots of flora fauna and wildlife, including evidence of Bats is protected from abuse by any individual, or individuals who are hell bent on destroying one of the very few places of open space that decent law abiding people can enjoy. I have asked our neighbourhood police to pay particular attention to this area in order to stamp out this unacceptable behaviour.
If you are aware of any incidents of under-aged drinking or anti-social behaviour at this location, or any other please report it to the police on 709 6010 or through Crime Stoppers: 0800 555111
