Earlier today, in my role as Chairman of Merseytravels Rail Services Committee, I was invited to attend a train naming ceremony at Southport Station. Earlier this month the people of Merseyside were asked to submit their nominations to name four Merseyrail Electrics trains. The four names selected were Red Rum, Bob Paisley, Dixie Dean and the Beatles. Today saw the first train named after that fabulous, and possibly the most famous race horse in the world, ‘Red Rum’. Rummy was trained by Ginger McCain who is pictured here with me, left, Mark Dowd Chairman of Merseytravel, centre and Ginger McCain right.
