Wirral’s CCTV Suite – ‘In the Clear’?

July 13, 2008 · 1 Comment

Readers will recall I asked the Director of Regeneration to carry out an investigation into procedures and practices at Wirral’s CCTV Suite.   The Director has responded via email, and his response effectively says that the anonymous allegations were unfounded.

I have told the Director that despite his positive response, I am not completey reassured, and I have requested that a full report is made available to the Council’s Housing and Community Safety Overview and Scrutiny Committee, in order that we, as elected Members can call for further evidence and assure ourselves that there are no problems in this area.  Watch out for updates on this site……………………..

I’m in full agreement with your call for disclosure. Elected officials that understand the responsibility – Scrutiny Committee, must be supported.

Somewhere along the road we have to re-build the trust between officials and common people that elected them. Whether the info becomes public or not, committee members must have the ability to oversee any technology that involves the citizens.

Remember this is an on-going process, so guidelines and administrative procedures may have to be re-aligned. The main goal is moving forward. Relying on (1) persons does not have the same effect as a committee.
