Wirral council has been asked to choose a new television for the room used by councillors at the Town Hall, costing around £1,000. The Members Room currently has a little-used TV, plus two computer terminals and laser printers, for use by any councillor while in the building. Now, an unnamed member (not one of the Conservative Group) so most likely from the ruling Labour and Liberal Democrat Coalition has asked the Council’s Democratic Services Manager to upgrade the TV.
I simply can’t believe the mentality and the arrogance of these people. At a time when Council Tax has gone up, when Council employees are faced with redundancy, and when many people in Wirral are struggling with rising prices for fuel, food and travel, I think for the Council to provide a new, state-of-the-art TV for Councillors is sending out the wrong message. Do we really need a high-spec, 42″ digital TV for councillors? I don’t think so. If a councillor wants to watch the latest episode of Corrie, they can go home to do so or record it to watch later. The Council Tax payer should not be paying for this.”
Of course they need a new telly.
It will stop them gazing at their own navels for a change.
Council tax! Most people don’t realise how much of their money is going down this open, and ever-widening, drain.
Never mind watching the bloody telly, they should be watching out for the people of Wirral. Cheeky B******s!
New high-tec TV…what a cheek!
In fact, (and I’m sure there’s goog justification) why does the council even have a TV in the first place – or a TV license! Shouldn’t councillors be working to improve the Wirral and not watching TV? If they need to up-to-date with the news, is the internet no sufficient?
Aside from that, if there are two computers and some laser printers in the room also, are they always on? What a waste of good energy!
I’m lucky to have three councillors that are very active and passionate about the area they reside in. Obviously other wards do not have such luck and their councillors are sitting in the ‘mess’ room watching Trisha. (or perhaps Prime Ministers question time?).
I pay my council tax and I’m happy to pay it because I know that it gets used to good effect in Saughall Massie but with stories such as this, I can understand why other wirral residents find themselves annoyed.
