There has been much said about why Cllr Les Byrom has defected from the Conservatives to New Labour. He says that its because of policy issues within the party, and in particular the stance on the 42 day detention issue.
However it’s strange that his defection has come on the back of his removal from the Merseyside Fire Authority (It is rumoured that he was given notice of this 12 months ago by his group leader in Sefton) and with that his position on the Local Government Association, has gone up in smoke (excuse the pun) anyway that means he loses circa £17,000 per year.
Come on Les, you say you are an honourable man, lets have the real reason for the defection?
