At our last Area Forum on the 13 February 2008, I asked a question about dentistry in Wirral. Well after a longer wait than in a dentists waiting room (and we have all been there, well if your lucky enough to have an NHS dentist), I have finally received a response from the Chief Executive of Wirral’s Primary Care Trust. (PCT)
Despite the response stating that Wiral PCT has the highest investment for dentistry in the North West, they still only have an access rate of 70%. Does this mean that one in three people in Wirral still do not have access to an NHS dentist? That can only be described as a total disgrace, no wonder people are resorting to the use of ‘Super Glue’ to replace crowns!
Let me be clear, this is not the fault of the Dental Profession, it is clearly the fault of this Labour Government who introduced new Dental Contracts which forced dentists away from the NHS.
Whatever happened to the Labour Governments promise in 1999, that EVERYONE would have access to an NHS dentist within the next two years? Here we are nine years later, and millions across the country still do not have access to an NHS dentist!
