Today I attended an event at Woodside Ferry Terminal to witness one of the five sections of the Submarine U534 being moved to its new location at the ferry terminal. Unfortunately due to the high winds the movement of the third section had to be postponed.
However it was fascinating to look inside, albeit from a distance and get a ‘feel’ for what working and living conditions on board must have been like, difficult would most definitely be an understatement.
Two sections are at the ferry terminal with the other three scheduled to come over from Mortar Mill Quay, Thursday, Friday and Saturday (weather permitting).
Once all five sections are in place and set up, with a planned opening of the attraction in July, visitors to the ferry terminal will be able to see for themselves inside the Sub, along with viewing many of the artefacts.
