Beryl is just one of a very small group of dedicated Moreton residents who work tirelessly to try to bring some festive cheer to our Town every Christmas, and believe me it is not an easy task.  I am sure people do not realise just how much it costs to light up the Town.

Currently we have 46 lighting columns that have the necessary sockets to allow Christmas lights to be fixed to them, however to light them all with just simple rope lights would cost in the region of £6,000 per year. That’s the purchase of the lights, the erection, dismantling and of course, the storage. If more elaborate decorations, such as are up at the moment were to be bought the cost would rise to approx £10,000 per year.

It takes an awful lot of work and dedication to raise that amount of money year on year, and yes the Council will match fund up to a maximum of £2,038, but to get that the Association needs to provide receipts for £4,076.

The Community Lights Association, like me, would love to see all the lighting columns decorated with Christmas cheer, however if that is to happen, more people need to get involved with fundraising, and helping in other ways.   As well as that more Moreton businesses need to get on board, particularly the larger businesses and financial institutions.

As Councillors for Moreton, me, Suzanne and Simon have, and will continue to offer our full support to Beryl and the team. We will continue to do all we can to ensure that our Town is lit with festive cheer every year.

I would urge residents of Moreton to get involved, for more information contact Beryl on: 07809 245561or email: berylbez@aol.com  alternatively you can contact me on: 07803 614418, email chrisblakeley@wirral.gov.uk

Come on Moreton, get behind your Town.
