earlier this evening I attended the Council’s Regeneration and Planning Strategy Overview and Scrutiny Committee (OSC).
The committee, which is made up of seven Councillors, two Conservatives, two Liberal Democrats and three Labour were considering the petition that, I submitted on behalf of local residents, following erection of the telephone mast on Hoylake Road.
You will recall that the mast was allowed to be erected because of errors made by the Council in not sending out a refusal notice in time which allowed the applicant, T-Mobile ‘Deemed Consent’.
The petition, signed by over 200 people, called on the Council to consider ‘Revocation and or, Discontinuation’ as a way of exploring options to have this unwanted mast removed from our community.
I spoke in support of revocation and or discontinuation, reminding the Council that it was wrong that the people of Moreton and the wider Community should have to pay the price for Council Officers errors and put up with this unwanted mast for a moment longer than necessary.
My colleague, Cllr Simon Mountney who sits on the committee, moved a recommendation that requested the Council explore further the discontinuation process. This recommendation was seconded by the Conservative Councillor for New Brighton, Bill Duffey. However this recommendation was defeated when Labour and Lib Dem Councillors voted against it. Labour and Lib Dems then voted for the petition to be noted, but no further action be taken to remove the mast.
I am sorry that up to know we have not been successful in having action taken to remove the mast, however I will continue to explore any, (if there are any left) avenues open to me to try to make sure that this monstrosity is removed.
